Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy, also referred to as talk therapy, is the process of meeting with a state licensed professional psychotherapist to resolve problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, or relationships, and encourages open and honest dialogue about issues that cause distress. The professional psychotherapist is trained in clinical diagnosis and treatment using the latest techniques/modalities.
Beginning therapy can be a big step toward becoming a healthier version of yourself and living the best life possible—despite the challenges you face. Therapy can assist you in learning to change or modify self-destructive patterns of thoughts or behaviors, to address unhealthy habits, resolve painful feelings, improve relationships, etc.. The therapy process will help you to work to identify and understand how the stressors in your life are impacting you, and will assist in development of strategies for effective coping. But this process requires commitment on your part to working through emotions that might be uncomfortable, and acknowledging/changing unhelpful patterns of behavior. There can be no guarantees in therapy, but with deliberate and consistent effort change does come.
